PROJECT SUMMARY
Caterpillar is a global provider of heavy equipment and machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. Caterpillar hired me to design a proof of concept rental portal to enhance the rental experience for customers using its equipment for short- and long-term projects. The portal offers real-time information about equipment availability, pricing, delivery options, and features such as online reservations and equipment tracking.
CHALLENGE
Caterpillar's primary challenge was to create an easy-to-use rental portal that provided value to customers. The Proof of Concept portal had to be accessible on multiple devices and display quick references to rental equipment data such as status, utilization, invoices, alerts, service requests, and budget capacity.
SOLUTION
To meet the challenges, the Proof of Concept portal required a Dashboard with multiple data visualization to show rental equipment status, utilization, invoices, alerts, service requests, and budget capacity. In addition, it includes filtering by asset, dealer, and job site and uses tables, icons, and infographics for better data comprehension. Overall, it provides an intuitive way to access and analyze rental equipment data.
The rental portal includes a Map to locate rental equipment, which allows users to zoom in on individual assets and define job site geofences for better tracking. It also provides weather radar and satellite views and can filter by asset, dealer, and job site.
The rental portal includes an On Rent view that provides a table view of rented equipment with customizable options for display and sharing. Users can also view asset details and take necessary actions on multiple or individual assets.
Our rental portal includes a machine learning AI assistant that offers search capabilities through typing or voice triggers. The AI assistant also provides guided checkout, streamlining the rental process for users.
RESULTS
The proof of concept rental portal received positive feedback from the client and customers. It streamlined the rental process, reducing the time and effort required for equipment reservation and tracking. The successful outcome demonstrated the value of digital technology in improving customer experience and business operations.
